Powerchange take students on a voyage of discovery

Powerchange has gone back to School at the invitation of The West Sussex Education Business Partnership. This organisation goes into schools to help provide secondary school students with a taste of enterprise and entrepreneurial culture. Roy has been involved in activity like this for the best part of 20 years and has always enjoyed working with this age group. Both Andrew and Roy of course are former secondary school teachers.

On Tuesday November 16th Andrew and Roy attended St Philip Howard Catholic High School in Barnham near Bognor Regis to take part in an Enterprise Deep Learning day which consisted of groups of Year 9 and Sixth Form students forming mini companies to create a product to sell at an outdoor market in the run up to Christmas.

As a result of our work on the day other members of the Business team that supported the Day have asked to be coached by Roy (third left above) and Andrew (far right above). In the group that worked with the students three members (Gavin McCoy, front second from right, Sarah Barnett, fifth from right, and Suzi Buckley, fourth from left) are being or have been coached by Powerchange.

A similar group were asked back to Bishop Luffa School, Chichester on Monday 22nd November to speak to the whole of Year 11 about Enterprise. Roy and Andrew delivered a short talk on how to start a business and used the DASA Dance as  a mnenomic. The sight of of two sets of 100 students standing up, gyrating and repeating Decide what you want, Act towards it, See what happens, Adjust.. was very amusing - and the students seemed to really enjoy the experience with both Roy and Andrew surrounded by students wanting to talk afterwards.

Angela Paterson of West Sussex County Council and the Education Business Partnership was delighted with the way the events went.

"Just to say a big thank you for your input at Bishop Luffa yesterday and for jumping in at the last minute! You seemed to get a lot of interest from the students - hope it was beneficial for you.

The school is very appreciative and hope to get student/teacher evaluations to me shortly. I'm also going to write a few words about the event in our next newsletter so I'll mention your names! The School has posted about the day on its website:
